Fire crews from Sand Lake and Cedar Springs are on the scene of a house and wildfire that is burning on a private drive off Shaner Avenue, just south of Coan.

Firefighters were called to the scene about 2 p.m. Thursday, with DNR aerial support reporting a 5-acre grass fire.

A witness reported that he stopped when he saw smoke pouring from the area, and found a home set back in the woods with the roof on fire. He helped the woman out, along with her dog.

The fire jumped from the home and quickly spread through brush and leaves in the wooded area.
