VanRee

Eric D. VanRee, age 25, of Rockford passed away on Monday, May 18, 2009. He was a 2002 graduate of Forest Hills Northern High School. Eric was an outfielder in baseball and a cornerback in football, lettering in both sports.

He and Jennifer met through mutual friends, and it was love from that moment. On June 2, 2007, they were married at Rockford United Methodist Church. Eric worked as a machine operator for Dynamic Wood Products. He especially enjoyed being with family and friends and liked playing softball, volleyball, and video games.

A year ago he was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) and had a bone marrow transplant on January 13, 2009. Both Jennifer’s and Eric’s families faced his cancer with a positive outlook. They are very grateful for the compassionate medical care given by the doctors, nurses and staff at Motts Children’s Hospital and PICU.

Eric is survived by his loving wife, the former Jennifer Seeley; parents, Daniel and Sally (nee Slotsema) VanRee; sisters, Jennifer and Bill Cooke, and Ashley VanRee; grandparents, Mrs. Elizabeth VanRee, and Marvin and Wilma Slotsema; Jennifer’s family, Larry and Nancy Seeley, Kelly and Tom Fawcett, and Michael Seeley; and aunts, uncles and cousins. His grandfather, Daniel VanRee, preceded him in death.

The service for Eric will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Rockford United Methodist Church with Pastor Dick Riley officiating. Interment will be in Rockford Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Motts Children’s Hospital, 1500 E. Medical Center Dr., Ann Arbor, MI 48109. Relatives and friends gathered at Pederson Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Arrangements were made by Pederson Funeral Home, Rockford.
