Kristin Darby, a Rockford High School senior, is the proud recipient of the Rockford Chamber of Commerce Scholarship.

Darby was among 13 applicants who applied for the $1,000 scholarship.  A panel of 12 board members had the difficult task of poring over the applications and whittling down the list to the eventual winner.

Darby impressed the judges with a program she entitled, “Senior Serving Seniors” that cultivates multi-generational friendships between high school seniors and the community’s senior citizens. She is planning on attending the University of Michigan in the fall pursuing a career in medicine and was recruited for the Wolverine’s soccer team.

“It was a wonderful privilege to receive the Rockford Chamber of Commerce Scholarship,” said Darby. “I am so thankful and really appreciate it.”

Dr. Michael Shibler, RCC Secretary, announced the scholarship winner during the Chamber’s Rockford Community EXPO event on Saturday, March 21.  Kristin was formally presented with the scholarship at RHS Honors Convocation ceremony by RCC President, Polly Von Eschen on Thursday, May 21, 2009.
