Mrs. Theresa M. Brown, age 82, of Rockford went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 9, 2009.

Shortly after her graduation from St. Louis High School in Mt. Clemens, Theresa married Bill Brown on November 9, 1946. At that time she was working for Detroit Edison, but when the children arrived, she became a stay-at-home mom.

In 1963 Theresa and her family moved to Rockford. Later she went to work as a secretary at the Jack R. Root Insurance Agency and part of her job also included working for Rockford Ambulance Service. She continued to work in the insurance industry until her retirement.

While her children were growing up, Theresa was very active in Boy Scouts, Girl Scout Brownies, Blue Birds, and was President of the PTA. Vacations were alternately spent at the family cottage, and the following year was Theresa’s choice. She loved gardening, canning and sewing her children’s clothing. Her family was what made Theresa the happiest. While her husband was away working, she ran the household, and her children remember those special Friday meals. On November 9, 1997 (their 51st wedding anniversary), Theresa and Bill joined Rockford United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her children, Richard Brown of Wyoming, Mich., Mary Jo and Karl Koster of Belmont, Carol Sue and Jack Cook of Rockford, and Diana Lynn and Steven McClurken of Cedar Springs; 11 grandchildren, Robert William and Laura Brown, Suzanne Lynn and Jim Harthorn, Thomas Michael Brown, Brad Lee and Amy Brown, Kevin Koster, Sara and Ryan Schmidt, Tina and Joel Ross, Brandon and Kristen Cook, Emily and Chad Tejchma, Elizabeth McClurken, Caitlin McClurken; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Roberta and Harry Alore; sisters-in-law, May Taylor, and Ann and Keith Ball; and nieces and nephews. Theresa was preceded in death by her husband, William H. “Bill” Brown, on February 16, 1998; her grandson, Gary Alan McClurken; her parents, Robert and Mary Wilde; her brother, Leslie Wilde; her sister, Emily Wilde; her sister-in-law, Rosemarie Wilde; and very special friend, Peter Brucki.

The service for Theresa will be held on Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m. at Rockford United Methodist Church with Rev. Dick Riley officiating. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Rockford United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association. Relatives and friends may gather at Rockford United Methodist Church on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and prior to the service on Thursday.

Arrangements were made by Pederson Funeral Home, Rockford.
