The Ram hockey team played Thursday, Friday and Saturday, February 4, 5 and 6 at Southside Ice Arena at the fifth annual McMichigan Cup. The Rams fell short in defending their title at this event, however. Play began against Grandville and saw a Ram loss 5-1 on Thursday evening. Senior captain Jake Chaffee scored the Rams only goal.

On Friday, the Rams bounced back and won 8-5 against Jenison in a entertaining game. There was a lot of scoring and action on the ice. Senior Cody Cantu led the Rams in scoring.

Saturday the Rams lost a heartbreaker against Forest Hills Central 5-4. In a hard-fought game. Chaffee and Robert Perry led the Rams in scoring in that game. The Rams are looking to rebound with a Friday, February 12 competition against East Grand Rapids at Patterson Ice Arena at 8 p.m.

Coach Ed VanPortfliet said, “I was happy with our team’s effort but disappointed in our lack of discipline. I am confident we will be better at our next game.”
