Both Rockford inline hockey teams continue on in the playoff efforts. All remaining playoff games promise to be exciting, and these two Rockford teams are in the thick of it.
Rockford’s white team has had a challenging 2009-1010 season, but are not going down without a fight. In their latest game with the top seeded Cedar Springs white team, the Rams took the game into overtime, only to come up short, losing 10-11 in a shootout. The Rockford white team has been led consistently throughout the season by points leader senior Evan DeGelder, who also turned in two goals in their latest 5-2 loss. Rockford white has been led defensively throughout the season by Corey Harkema, Jake Conne and goalie Brandon Van Werts, whose stellar performance has come up big on many occasions. Adding offensive presence to the Rams are seniors Mike VanHam and Conor Driscoll.
The Rockford orange team is finishing their season strong with back-to-back wins, advancing them even further into the playoff picture. The Rams’ Thursday night impressive 6-1 win over the Cedar Springs red team showed an overall team effort that’s necessary for playoff advancement. Rockford senior Adam Shiffman led the team with a hat trick and an assist, with the remaining goals coming from seniors Ty Schwandt and Andrew Wenger. Jaeger, Karrip, Woods and Zeigler added assists to a well-balanced attack.
Coach Jeff Trimble said, “The leadership from senior players tonight was second to none! When you have nearly every player contributing to the offense, you’re a hard team to stop. This team is coming together at the right time to be in a fight for the league championship.”
After playoffs, these two teams will combine their top talented players to form a Rams power team. This team will prepare at the Cedar Rock Sports Plex with further practice and spring league competition. This Ram team will represent Rockford at the highly competitive Michigan High School State Tournament in Novi, Mich. in May.
