Chandler Woods returns to Science Olympiad

For the second consecutive year, Chandler Woods Charter Academy is moving on to the 2010 Science Olympiad State Tournament sponsored by Michigan State University’s Division of Science and Math Education.

More than 450 high school and middle school/junior high teams competed at the Science Olympiad Regional competitions in February and March. Nearly 100 advancing regional teams, Division B Junior High/Middle schools and Division C High Schools, will be competing in the 28th Michigan State Science Olympiad Tournament Saturday, May 1, on the Michigan State University campus.

Forty six competitive events will be held in various locations on the MSU campus. Competitive events include Battery Buggy, Science Crime Busters, Forensics (SCI type event) and Junkyard Challenge, to name a few.

Team shirts, medals and trophies are a part of the discovery hoopla.

State Champions and runner-up teams from both divisions will qualify for to the National Science Olympiad Tournament at The University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, Illinois May 20 to 22.

Chandler Woods Charter Academy is one of 29 junior high/middle school teams returning from last year. Chandler Woods students, coaches and teachers represent a strong dedication to science education and have worked tirelessly throughout the year to prep for the competitive event and rise to the top.
