Rockford Community Education holds first soccer tourney

The HopCat team of (front row, l–r) Melissa Diekema, Amy Hoek, Bonnie Swanson, Abby Hansen, Mary White, Heidi Hoevenaar; (back row, l–r) Missy Brophy, Laurie Brush, Sue LaLone, Lisa Goldsmith, Betsy Herdsman, Leslie Teelander, Kara Herman; (not pictured) Maureen Carmody and Stephanie Vandermaas take part in Rockford Community Education’s first soccer tournament, May 8 and 9. It was held for seventh- and eighth-graders and the women’s 30+ league. The HopCat team was 2-1 playing in the rain, hail, wind and very chilly temperatures. Half of the players either live or work in Rockford and are very active in the sport and within the community.
