Turkey Time Bowling Bash to benefit Olivia’s Gift

Family fun event to help raise awareness, resources for housing for disabled adults

Olivia Henrickson is a 20-year-old young lady who lives in Rockford. Her smile lights up the room, and she is game for just about any kind of fun—especially the type of family fun featured at the November 19 Turkey Time Bowling Bash at two locations, starting at 6:30 p.m. The first event takes place at Buffalo Wild Wings, 3050 Alpine Ave. NW, Grand Rapids. Think crazy turkey bowling! Try your roll of the frozen turkey on a manmade bowling alley. Everyone loves to try for a strike with a frozen turkey! There will be lots of giveaways just for trying. At 9:30 p.m. the fun moves to Westgate Bowling, 4486 Alpine NW, Grand Rapids. All 60 lanes will be donated to Olivia’s Gift for fun and games. The fun ranges from frozen turkey bowling to cosmic bowling, fun jukebox music, turkey giveaways, “best team” bowling shirts, 50/50 raffles and so much more!

At first blush, the Thanksgiving Turkey Time Bowling Bash appears to be all fun and games. But this party offers much more. The party will be high energy cosmic bowling, emceed by WLAV’s Tony Gates, and a bowling lane set up for wheelchair bowling. Everyone can experience what it would be like to rely on a wheelchair for mobility. There also will be sensory perception bowling to experience life without the use of one’s sight or hearing.

Olivia nearly drowned at the age of three, and as a result, she struggles daily with multiple physical and mental disabilities. In 2005, Olivia’s Gift was founded and is a 501(c)3 nonprofit committed to building residential housing for young adults with disabilities. They will break ground on the first six-unit home this winter near Cascade Road and Spaulding in Grand Rapids.

Tickets for the event are $20 for adults and $6 for children and can be purchased online through

www.oliviasgift.org or at the door. Tickets include cosmic bowling and an automatic entry to win over $1,000 in prizes and lots of other fun giveaways. You need not be present to win. One hundred frozen turkeys will also be donated by Family Fare.

Regardless of one’s age or stage in life, this Thanksgiving-time party to raise awareness and resources for residential housing for young adults with disabilities is sure to be a fun-filled event. Join sponsors Buffalo Wild Wings, Citadel Broadcasting/WLAV, Spartan Stores/ Family Fare, CBS Outdoors, West Side Beer Distributing, 2/90 Sign Systems and Barncats to help those in our community who cannot help themselves due to disabilities.

Check out Olivia’s Gift online and mark Friday, Nov. 19, 2010 on your calendar.
