Message from Rockford State RepresentativeMacGregor

by PETER MACGREGOR
State Representative, 73rd District

It’s morning in Michigan! I’d like to begin my term by saying, “Thank you for electing me to serve as your state representative in the Michigan legislature. I am humbled by your faith in me and I approach this role as that of a true ‘public servant’.” This is the first installment of what will be a monthly article to keep you updated on what is happening in the legislature and open any and all lines of communication between myself and the constituents of the 73rd district. Our district includes: the cities of Cedar Springs and Rockford, the townships of Algoma, Cannon, Courtland, Nelson, Plainfield, Oakfield, Solon, Sparta, Spencer and Tyrone, and the villages of Kent City, Sand Lake and Sparta.

Our state’s reinvention can’t come soon enough and I am very eager to be part of that process. As of yesterday, I was appointed to our state’s Appropriations Committee. This committee is charged with allocating your tax dollars that come into our state. Specifically, I will be chairing the Military and Veterans Affairs budget subcommittee, chairing the State Police budget subcommittee, vice-chairing the Department of Community Health budget subcommittee, and serving on the Department of Labor and Economic Growth budget subcommittee. I will also be voting on the Appropriations committee as a whole.

These committees will allow me to have greater input on “right-sizing” our state’s budget. I have no illusions that this role will be easy, and my colleagues and I will be making some very difficult and painful decisions in the weeks and months to come in order to restore the economic prosperity that our great state once enjoyed.

My approach to this challenge is to apply conservative, common sense, guiding principles to every decision I make on your behalf. For too long, our elected officials have overreached and deviated from the intent of both our national and state constitutions. I will be making decisions based on what is first constitutional and, second, on what is right for our district.

I am excited to work with you on our mission of a smaller more efficient government, reformation and reinvention. Please contact my office if you have any questions, concerns, great news or ideas you would like to share. Mail to Peter MacGregor, State Representative, 73rd District, PO Box 30014, Lansing, MI 48909-7514, call (855) 347-8073, or e-mail to PeterMacGregor@house.mi.gov.

Thank you once again for placing your confidence in me. I look forward to honoring that confidence with faithful and committed service.
