Cannon looks for Planning Commissioner

The Cannon Township Planning Commission has an opening for a Planning Commissioner. The Planning Commission is responsible for development and implementation of the township’s Master Plan and Zoning Ordinance. It is through the implementation of the Master Plan that the community addresses issues brought on by land development within the township. The Planning Commission is tasked with a fair and consistent balancing of landowner interests with the long-term vision for the community, protection of the environment, assurance that development is adequately served by utilities and the need to achieve the quality of life desired by residents.

The seven-member Planning Commission is required by law to meet once a month a minimum of four times per year. Additional monthly meetings are frequently held as development warrants. Subcommittees are formed as needed for larger projects. A small stipend is paid for each meeting attended. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m.

The position is open to all registered voters who are residents of Cannon Township. Appointments are made by the supervisor. This appointment is for a term expiring December 31, 2013. Interested applicants should e-mail a letter of interest and résumé to Bonnie Blackledge, Township Clerk, at bonnies@cannontwp.org by April 22. No previous planning experience is necessary, just an interest in helping better one’s community.
