Kendall recognizes Bruce, Excellence Award winner

Kendall College of Art and Design recently announced the winner of the college’s Excellence Award for the Art Education program of study is graduating senior, Christopher Bruce of Imlay City, Mich. Four years ago, Bruce moved to Grand Rapids from the east side of the state to pursue an education at Kendall. While studying at Kendall he has found that a love of learning, he believes, is a natural part of us all. As one of 271 graduating seniors in the 2011 class, with a bachelor of fine arts; art education, he hopes to continue his goal to advocate for the promotion of literacy through the visual arts.

Currently Bruce is an art educator at the Rockford Freshman Center. While working there he has designed and implemented curriculum based on state and national standards, rewrote district-wide common assessments to align with course objectives, and he has updated the classroom environment and procedures to better serve the needs of the students. He is also an education program assistant at the Grand Rapids Art Museum. His objective there is to design and implement creative and educationally sound lesson plans for a wide range of ages.
