a utility employee. Sally Bowers, administrative specialist II at the Grand Rapids service center, performed over 100 hours of volunteer service over the past year with the Rockford Band Parents organization.
The Volunteer Investment Program grant will be used to help offset costs of the 2011 marching band show, which includes both state and national competitions, according to the organization’s treasurer, Kerry Bean. Costs include band camp, props, flags and various other costs related to the show.
The grant reflects a doubled amount through the Consumers Energy Foundation’s Consumers Energy Employees Providing Service Around Children’s Essential Resources (CEEPSACER) Program, which was established as part of Consumers Energy’s commitment to America’s Promise-The Alliance for Youth. America’s Promise works to provide every young person with the Five Promises’ developmental resources that young people need so they will have a better chance to succeed in life. The resources include caring adults, safe places, a healthy start, effective education and opportunities to help others.
