Displaying their winning posters are (l–r) art teacher Sarah Mullen and student Madeline Fryc of East Rockford Middle School and student Hannah Willman and art teacher Rachel Kibbe of North Rockford Middle School.
Madeline Fryc from East Rockford Middle School (ERMS) and Hannah Willman from North Rockford Middle School (NRMS) were chosen as this year’s Rockford Lions Club Peace Poster winners. Both students’ work represents the incredible talent that is prevalent in Rockford’s middle schools. Madeline’s submitted artwork was chosen as both the local and district winner, which is a great honor, as it competed with hundreds of other pieces of submitted artwork. As winners of their respective school’s competition, both Madeline and Hannah received a $100 gift card from Pegasus Sports. As the winner of the Lions District comprising 50 clubs, Madeline was also awarded a $100 U.S. savings bond.
Open to students 11-13 years old, the Lions Annual International Peace Poster Contest encourages young people to creatively express their understanding of international cooperation, peace and tolerance of other beliefs. Each year Rockford Lion Bob Spaeth organizes this program for middle school students with the cooperation of NRMS art teacher, Rachel Kibbe, and ERMS art teacher, Sarah Mullen.
The Rockford Lions salute the talent of Madeline and Hannah and thank the Rockford school system for its continuing outstanding contribution to the development of its young people.
