Rockford’s boys lacrosse team’s season came to an end in the MHSAA regional playoffs at Holt High School last Wednesday. The Rams lost a close battle to Holt by a score of 10-8.

Trailing 8-5 at halftime, Rockford outscored Holt 3-2 in the second half. Although the Rams never quit and actually out-shot Holt by a 32 to 22 margin during the game, they were unable to tie it up against a very strong Holt defense.

The Rams were led by sophomore attack man Kento Nakano, who scored three goals and had one assist. Senior Adam Kroll scored twice, and Rockford also had goals from senior Erik Datema, junior Mitchell Newton, and freshman Kane Wolfer.

The Holt Rams’ leading scorer was attack man Paul Schalau, who tallied four goals in the contest.

Rockford Coach Pete Sims’ team finished the year with a 9 and 7 record. The young Rams will return many players to next year’s campaign, and look to improve upon their winning 2011 season.
