Rockford athlete wins national Milk Mustache award

Local student-athlete, Abigail Blanchard, from Rockford High School is a recipient of the 2011 Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year (SAMMY) awards. She is part of a group of 25 high school seniors selected from more than 40,000 applicants across the country. The winners are top performers when it comes to academics, athletics, community service and leadership, and also include milk in their daily routines.

Specifically, Blanchard’s accomplishments include All State and Academic All State honors in track and field for the 2008, 2009 and 2010 seasons as well as being recognized as team captain and MVP.

Friends, family and SAMMY award winner communities can vote for their favorite SAMMY winner at The scholar-athlete with the most votes will receive the title of SAMMY MVP and have an additional $5,000 donated to the charity of their choice.

The Milk Mustache ad featuring Abigail Blanchard runs on June 24 in USA Today. An awards ceremony at Disney World will be held on June 25
