Local eighth-graders donate hair

Katherine Mousel (left) and Ilene Gould (right) donate 11 inches each to the Pink Heart Funds, a charity that provides free wigs to children and women with medical conditions that lead to hair loss. Katherine and Ilene have been friends and neighbors for nine years, making the experience even more memorable for the teens and their families.

For Ilene, the hair donation was part of her Mitzvah (good deed/community service) project in becoming a Bat Mitzvah. Cathy VanderMeer of Directions Hair Salon on Belding Road provided the hair-cutting services at no cost to the girls.
