The Rockford High School men’s cross-country team continued to leverage their tremendous team depth to win the regional meet at Allendale High School on Saturday, Oct. 29.

“Today was just another example of how important every guy is to this team,” said Coach Andrew Martin, commenting on how different Rams have led the way to victory in their last three races. “And we had an average time of 16:29, which is pretty remarkable.”

Senior Tyler Harney led the way for the Rams, posting a personal record time of 16:15, which was good for fourth place overall. Harney was followed by junior Drew Woznick, who took eighth place, junior Casey Aman in ninth place, senior Andrew Pitcher in 12th place, junior Chris Coles in 14th place, junior Grant Aman in 15th place and junior Austin Benoit in 25th place. Their finish resulted in 47 points, which bested second-place finisher Grand Haven’s 63 points and third-place finisher Grandville’s 87 points.

Rockford’s junior varsity harriers followed suit, winning their race by taking five of the top 10 positions. Senior Marc Lehman led the way for the Rams with a time of 17:15. He was followed by Caleb Cuneo (fourth), Conner Jewel (sixth), Mark Cruickshank (eighth) and Matt Albano (10th).

The Rams’ varsity team then headed to the state finals, held at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Mich. on Saturday, Nov. 5, to finish off their season. After running head to head with the best harriers in the state, the Rams came away with a very respectable seventh-place finish.

Benoit led the way for the Rams, finishing in 39th place with a time of 16:11. Next across the finish line was Harney who finished in 62nd place, followed by C. Aman who finished in 68th place.

Pitcher saved his best race for last, posting a personal record time of 16:24, which was good for 71st place. Pitcher as followed by teammates Coles, G. Aman and Woznick.

The race wrapped up a very successful season that saw Rockford achieve their goals of winning the conference and regional championships prior to competing at the state finals. The Rams now bid farewell to their senior teammates and set their sights on next year.
