On November 15, the Rockford area Girl Scouts will meet at North Rockford Middle School to once again pack shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. Last year our area troops packed over 150 shoe boxes!
Operation Christmas Child is a kids-helping-kids project that uses simple, gift-filled shoe boxes to show millions of hurting children in over 100 countries that they are loved and not forgotten. The Girl Scouts will be packing empty shoe boxes with toys, school supplies, hard candy and hygiene items. Operation Christmas Child collects the gift boxes and hand-delivers them to hurting children around the world. By donating the shipping costs online at www.samaritanspurse.org, you can track where each shoe box gift ends up. Last year, many of the boxes packed by the Girl Scouts went to Iraq and Southern Sudan.
If you would like to be a part of this project by donating items for the Girl Scouts’ packing party, please contact Jennie Nichols at (616) 874-1316.
