Bos, Manett qualify for nationals at Foot Locker Cross Country Championships Midwest regional
Local students Julia Bos and Taylor Manett, both of Rockford, placed in the top 10 at the 33rd annual Foot Locker Cross Country Championships (FLCCC) Northeast Regional on Saturday, Nov. 26. They will go on with the top 10 boys and the top 10 girls in this weekend’s seeded races to compete against runners from the Northeast, South and West Regional meets in the FLCCC National Finals on Saturday, Dec. 10 at Morley Field, Balboa Park in San Diego, Calif.
Bos earned second place in the FLCCC in 17:08. A junior at Grand Rapids Christian High School, she placed second in 17:14.
Mannett, also a Rockford runner and a senior at Rockford High School, took an amazing fourth place with a time of 17:35. In the 3,200-meter her personal best time is 11:08, and in the 5,000-meter her fastest time is 17:14. In addition to her race at Kenosha, Wis., she finished the 5K Gainey Course in Grand Rapids on September 24, 2011 in 17:19.
The highlights of Bos’ career in cross country include earning Division II Michigan state champion in 2011. She set the Portage meet record with time of 17:32.5 in 2011 and she came in second at the Foot Locker Midwest meet with new personal record of 17:14. She was an All State runner three years in a row. In track she broke her school record in the 3,200-meter with time of 11:08 (2011).
Bos enjoys drawing, gardening, playing with young children, running and yard work. The person she would most like to meet is Jesus. She considers her mom to be her hero and her dad to be her most influential person.
Mannett also had an impressive times in recent races, finishing the 5K Cougar-Falcon invitational at the Gainey Athletic Facility in 17:23 and the 5K Michigan High School Athletic Association state meet at Michigan International Speedway in 17:24. Her hobbies, in addition to running, include painting, whistling, making crafts and riding bikes. The person she would most like to meet is Lisa Koll.
Highlights of Mannett’s cross-country career include OK Red conference champion, MHSAA regional champion, MHSAA state runner-up, Rockford High School 5k record holder, and Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association Ms. Cross Country 2011. In track her career highlights include winning the 1,600-meter OK Red conference championship, earning the 1,600-meter MHSAA regional championship, and being awarded 4×800-meter MHSAA All State.
