Next year it will be cold, snow again for EXPO

Rockford Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Michael Shibler said the crowds were a little less for this year’s eighth annual Rockford Chamber of Commerce Community EXPO, which was Saturday, March 17 at Rockford High School. Nonetheless, the event was obviously a success, and Shibler said every exhibitor he spoke with was pleased with the event.

“This year it was a little less crowded and hectic,” Shibler said.

With performances from the current Rockford High School play “Thoroughly Modern Millie” and other musical entertainment on the stage, four people winning $500 cash drawings and one nearly lucky winner coming close to taking home a free Chevrolet, the EXPO was “obviously a success,” in Shibler’s opinion. He said the weather doubtless played a role. Winners of the five hundred dollars were Terri Byrne, Alice Taylor, Suzanne Kanuscewski and Dave Baker.

“Usually people come here to get out of the weather and see what’s going on. How many times in your life do you have a winter like this? It’s more like June outside than March,” Shibler commented.

Dr. Shibler predicted next year’s EXPO to be held in snow and cold as in the previous seven years of the event. “Everyone I’ve talked to is very happy with today’s event.”

Performances of “Thoroughly Modern Millie” will take place March 23-25 at the Rockford High School Auditorium for those who enjoyed the sneak peek look at the amazing talent from Rockford High School students.
