Rockford boys lacrosse flexes muscle on Senior Night

Rockford varsity boys lacrosse flexed their muscles on Senior Night, Tuesday, May 1, with 13 points scored by seniors in a landslide win of 21-2 over West Ottawa. Leading the senior scorers was Mitch Newton with four goals and two assists. Other senior point earners were Joe Belliel with two goals and an assist, Jesse Siegel with a goal and an assist, Spencer Sims with a goal, and Alex Pouba with an assist.

Underclassmen certainly contributed to the night’s success with six goals by junior Kane Wolfer, sophomore Ben Sims with four goals, Kento Nakano with two, and Blake McDonald with one.

Seniors Austin Phillips and Josh Larsen led the strong defense for the night. Connor Flynn and Tyler Wolpert were tending the net for the win. Capping off the night was senior Ben Braden registering his first penalty of his lacrosse career.

Thursday night, May 3, the Rams took on Forest Hills Eastern/Northern, with the game statistics still yet to be determined. The Rams battled to an 8-8 tie with 5:12 minutes left in the fourth quarter. The game was called due to lightening and will be finished Thursday evening, May 10.

Saturday night brought another tough match-up to the Ted, where the Rams took on Cranbrook varsity. The game was full of streaks and the Rams looked like they were going to win this one standing at a 12-9 lead late in the fourth quarter. Cranbrook fought back and tied it 12-12 to finish regulation play. Four minutes were put on the clock with the first goal scored determining the win. Cranbrook scored first to end a heartbreak 13-12. Wolfer led the Ram scoring with five goals, Newton added four, and McDonald, Nakano and B. Sims each contributed one.
