Rockford girls water polo continues to roll

Rockford’s Hollis Wyatt defends against Forest Hills.

The Lady Rams finished the week with a 3-0 record with victories over Jenison, Forest Hills and East Grand Rapids. These wins finished off a perfect conference season for the Rams and have provided great momentum heading into the upcoming district tournament.

The first game on April 30 against a fine Jenison team proved to be a defensive battle for most of the game. The first quarter featured goals from Morgan Longberg, Casey Wolfer and Adrianna Craft. Craft added another goal and the Rams held a commanding 4-0 lead at halftime. Kara Vandawater scored in the third period and Maddie Levine capped things off with goal in the fourth quarter, leading to a final score of Rockford 6, Jenison 2.

This evening also featured Purple Polo Night and both teams raised just under $1,300 with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.

Kara Vandawater rises up for a shot against East Grand Rapids.

The Lady Rams traveled to Forest Hills on May 1 and dominated the game from the very start. Wolfer and Marie Siegel tallied a goal apiece in the first quarter, and Kalia Lippencott and Wolfer added a goal each in the second quarter, which resulted in a 4-1 halftime lead.

Third quarter goals by Kara Vandawater, Wolfer and Levine took the wind out of the Forest Hills team. Vandawater added an additional goal in the fourth quarter, and the Lady Rams rolled to an 8-4 victory.

Senior Night against East Grand Rapids had a playoff feel to it. Senior leadership has played a large roll in the success of this team.

The first quarter was led by Wolfer, who notched two goals, but the Rams found themselves down 2-3 at the end of the quarter. In the second quarter, the defense tightened up for both teams and two goals by Vandawater helped to finish the half with a 4-4 tie.

The third quarter proved to be all Rockford. Two goals by Craft and a stingy defense by Rockford propelled the Rams to a 6-4 lead at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Craft and Wolfer put the finishing touches on a 8-5 win.

The win completes a perfect conference season for this team that is now looking to continue their winning ways in the post season.
