Board of Education vacancy announced

On May 14, 2012, the Board of Education accepted, with regret, the resignation of Board Trustee Tammy Schollaart, who has served on the Board since 1998.

In her resignation letter, Schollaart states, “Since my son’s graduation in 2010, I have begun working full time and have found that I no longer have the time to properly dedicate to the various volunteer organizations that I have committed to serve. It has been my privilege to serve the RPS district since 1998.”

According to Board President Randall Sellhorn, “It is with regret we accept Tammy’s resignation. It will be difficult to replace someone as dedicated and experienced as Tammy.”

Superintendent Shibler stated, “Mrs. Schollaart has served the Board in an exemplary fashion for the past 14 years, making continuous improvement for the Rockford Public Schools and the quality of education for our students a priority.”

The Board of Education is required to fill the vacancy and will therefore be accepting applications for a six-month appointment (July 1 through December 31, 2012). This seat will be placed on the November 2012 ballot for a full term to begin January 1, 2013. The successful appointee may petition to appear on that ballot if he or she so chooses.

The deadline to apply for the six-month appointment is Thursday, May 31 at noon. Interviews will be conducted the evening of Monday, June 18.

Those interested should send a letter of interest including the following:

• biographical information, including length of time residing in the Rockford school district;

• relevant employment or other experiences;

• your vision for the Rockford Public Schools;

• how the Board will benefit by your selection as a trustee;

• what you believe the purpose of the Board of Education is; and

• any other personal or professional information you wish to share.

The Board will assume you would like your application reviewed in confidence unless you indicate otherwise. Please ensure delivery by noon on May 31 to: Miles J. Postema, Secretary, Board of Education, Rockford Public Schools, 350 N. Main St., Rockford, MI 49341.

Please call Superintendent Dr. Michael Shibler’s office at (616) 863-6557 if you have any questions.
