NRMS bands rated superior

On May 3, both the seventh-grade concert band and eighth-grade symphonic band from North Rockford Middle School (NRMS) traveled to Big Rapids High School to perform at the State Band Festival. Both received Superior Division I ratings from all three concert judges as well as earning a Superior Division I rating from the sight-reading judge. Sight-reading is the part of festival where the students have five minutes to learn a piece of music they have never played or seen before and then perform it for a judge.

To perform at the State Band Festival, bands need to receive Superior ratings at their District Band Festival. Both the seventh- and eighth-grade bands received Superior Division I ratings from all of the judges at the District 10 Band Festival held at Otsego High School on February 23, 2012. This marked the 11th consecutive year that the symphonic band received a Superior rating and the ninth year the concert band received the same honor at the District 10 Band Festival.
