Manett wins at Midwest Meet of Champions

Taylor Manett accepts her award for winning the 1,600-meter run at the Midwest Meet of Champions.

Even though the track and field season has ended, there was one Rockford athlete who was invited to run for “Team Michigan” at the Midwest Meet of Champions track meet in Indiana on Saturday, June 9. After the state meet (all divisions) last week, the officials look at the results and invite certain top senior finishers from Indiana, Ohio and Michigan, form state teams, and then compete in this Midwest Meet of Champions.

Taylor Manett runs her way to first place in the 1,600-meter run on Saturday, June 9 in Indiana.

Rockford senior standout Taylor Manett, after earning All-State awards in all three of her events at the track and field state meet, was invited to race in the 1,600-meter run at this meet. Each athlete runs one event. Manett won the 1,600-meter run with a school record-breaking time of 4:49.

Manett plans to continue her running with a full scholarship to the University of Michigan, where she was recruited for both cross country and track.
