RPS offers variety of preschool, child care options

by JANE DOWNS
Rockford Preschool and Child Care Director

Area families finding themselves in need of preschool or child care for the fall, your search is over! Our preschool and child care programs are state licensed and help prepare preschoolers for school success.

Community Education, Hola Amigos, Montessori and our Child Development Lab all provide daily experiences in literacy, math, music, art, gross and fine motor development. Children also have opportunities to become independent, make decisions, develop creativity and practice school readiness social skills such as taking turns, sharing, and learning to be a group member. Our teachers make it a priority to make learning fun while providing plenty of individual attention and encouragement. The programs vary in price, session length and days per week.

For more information and assistance finding a program that is right for you and your child, please visit the Rockford Public Schools (RPS) website at www.rockfordschools.org or call the Child Care Services office at (616) 863-6560.

For working parents of preschoolers looking for a quality program with wrap-around child care, we offer that as well. Our preschool with wrap-around child care has earned the distinction of national accreditation through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Our Preschool Enrichment Child Care exposes children to a wide variety of learning experiences, including a planned preschool program, meals, and outdoor play. It is open year ‘round from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wrap-around child care can also be used with any of our preschool programs (Community Education, Hola Amigos, Montessori or Child Development Lab).

If you are looking for an alternative to having your school-age child home alone before or after school, our Before and After School Care (BAC) programs in each of the elementary buildings may be just what you need! Parents can be assured that their children are in a safe, fun and nurturing environment including planned table games, crafts, gym time, outdoor play and homework time. BAC is open from 7:00 a.m. until the start of school and after school until 6:00 p.m. It is offered every day that school is in session, as well as on teacher in-service, conference, and many school vacation days. Information and registration packets are available at each elementary school, online and in the Child Care Services Office.
