Meet Dr. Matt Douglas as he discusses the wonders of butterflies. He is the co-author of “Butterflies of the Great Lakes” and is considered the area expert on butterflies. Son of Kaleidoscope Concert—4 to 10 p.m. at Bella Vista Church on Belding Road, Rockford. Enjoy 12 different bands (rock, jazz, hip hop, folk, Christian Contemporary, country, even video game music!), and food sales. Admission is free. Bring your lawn chairs.

Medicinal Plant Workshop—2 to 3:30 p.m. at Blandford Nature Center, 1715 Hillburn Ave. NW, Grand Rapids. Ages 12 and up are invited to gain a new perspective on those weeds in your backyard as we make medicinal salves. Cost is $10 per member or $12 per non-member. Auditions for “Dixie Swim Club”—the Cedar Springs Community Players’ fall show, a hilarious comedy, will be held 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Cedar Springs United Methodist Church. A cast of five middle-aged women is needed for this show which will be presented at the Kent Theatre in Cedar Springs on October 18-20 at 7:30 p.m. Rehearsals will tentatively be Monday through Thursday.
