Curves and Gild the Lily benefit Relay for Life

By Erin Cole

Curves involvement with Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society May fundraiser began from personal connections to those affected by cancer. Curves has given Gild the Lily the opportunity to join them in raising money for Relay for Life. A table and chairs will be auctioned at Gild the Lily on behalf of Curves. Gild the Lily will host a silent auction beginning October 5 through the end of the month for the furniture pieces. One hundred percent of the proceeds made will be donated directly to Relay for Life.

“A lot of our members and their families have or have had cancer. That’s why it’s important to us,” said Fiona Curtis manager of Curves located in Rockford. Every year Curves does in-house fundraising to donate to Relay for Life. Fiona along with members Cindy Nestle and Dawn Spaeth are the key figures behind Curves participation. Fiona adds “Everyone should experience [Relay for Life] once because whose life hasn’t been touched by cancer?”

Gild the Lily raises money to twelve different charities through its monthly “First Friday” events. This is the first silent auction where the proceeds will go towards a charity. The partner Carol Keller states “We are excited to team up with Curves by displaying the table and running the auction. We will also give ten percent of the sales made during the October 5 First Friday to Relay for Life.” In addition to aiding a charity, customers can also enjoy a catered lunch from Rockford’s Twisted Vine as part of the “First Friday” celebration.

The piece being auctioned is a custom made solid bleached maple farm table and two matching benches in a simple transitional style that could work well in any home. The table is five feet long by three feet four inches wide and two feet, six inches tall. The bench seats are fit to the length of the table. It gives the customers a chance to get a unique piece for their home, as well as benefit a charity.

Customers who stop in October 5 have a chance to participate in Star 105.7’s annual Purse Party drawing. Sign up for your chance to win a brand new designer purse and tickets to this year’s Purse Party in the Peter Martin Wege Theater for you and three friends.

If you wish to see the table, ask questions, or place a bid, stop at Gild the Lily, located on the corner of Ten Mile and Wolverine Boulevard.
