A week of wins for Rams boys varsity soccer

RAMS Senior goalkeeper Bryce Page makes the stretch and pushes a West Ottawa kick over the net to secure the save.

A win on the road and another at home this week brings the season record to 14-2-4 for the Rams Varsity Boys and maintains the number two spot in the state rankings. Tuesday’s match in Holland against West Ottawa was hard fought as scoring contributions were made by Juniors Derek Williams and Jayden Heyer, with assists by Ben Avink and Michael Pontius. Senior goalkeeper Bryce Page contributed three saves in the net and held a strong defensive line. The Rams prevailed 2-1.

Thursday brought the Rams home to celebrate Senior Night and to host the Hudsonville Eagles. The Rams gained an early, solid lead that allowed Coach Steve Thomas to provide playing opportunities for everyone. Senior Dewey Lewis scored three goals and one assist, Junior Derek Williams and Freshman Isaac Bronkema each added two goals and an assist, Senior Ben Avink and Junior Eli Appleby each added a goal and Junior Nate Henderson made two saves in the net to secure a 9-2 Rams win. Senior players recognized during the evening include: Ben Avink, Austin Crowell, Zak Hermann, Dewey Lewis, Bryce Page, Bjorn Peters, and Jamie Staley.

The Rams will wrap up conference play this upcoming week with matches against Grandville (Away) on Monday and Grand Haven (Home) on Wednesday.
