The new troopers assigned to the Rockford Post are Ryan Akers, Parker Surbrook, David Pipe and Richard Birmingham. The four troopers graduated from the 123rd Trooper Recruit School on Friday, October 19, 2012.
The troopers are among 78 who completed the 19-week long training are being assigned to posts throughout the state.
The troopers will go through a Field Training Program where they will learn from experienced
troopers assigned to the post. The training program is scheduled for 17 weeks but can be longer depending on how quickly the troopers learn the job.
The Rockford Post serves Kent, Ottawa and
Muskegon Counties. With the additional troopers, it will have a staff of 38 troopers, four motor carrier officers, seven road sergeants, two detectives, an assistant commander, a post commander and two administrative assistants.
The state police is to hire 180 new troopers in 2012. The 124th Trooper Recruit School is to begin Sunday, Oct. 28, with another to start in 2013. Those interested in applying
