The Relay for Life invites public to informational Open House

The Relay For Life of Rockford is looking for community groups, business, families and friends to join in the fight against cancer. The 2013 Relay For Life of Rockford will be held on May 17-18 at North Rockford Middle School. In an effort to generate more involvement and to encourage more groups to form Relay teams, the planning team will be host an informal open house on Monday, November 12, 2012 at the Community Cabin in Rockford from 6:45 to 7:30 p.m.

Cancer continues to remain the #1 health concern for Americans. The good news is that nearly half of all cancer deaths are preventable and events like Relay For Life not only educate people on what they can do to reduce their cancer risk, but also raise funds that lead to better treatment and more lives saved.  The open house on November 12 will serve as an opportunity for any area business that might be interested in getting involved in the 2013 Relay for Life as either a team or a sponsor, to meet our committee members, ask questions and to get more information.

Last year the Rockford community raised over $354,000 and in the past 10 years we have raised over 3.1 million dollars.  These numbers could not be accomplished without hundreds of volunteers, walkers, families, caregivers, cancer survivors, schools, companies, individuals and teams. The 2013 year will mark the 11th year for Relay For Life of Rockford. At the event, the Luminaria and Survivor Ceremonies offer us time to remember those who we’ve lost and celebrate those who have won the battle, while the Fight Back Ceremony gives everyone a chance to make a personal commitment to take action against cancer throughout the year.

Anyone interested in joining the fight against cancer by creating a Relay For Life of team in Rockford or through a sponsorship is encouraged to attend the open house.
