Church addition dedicated to late member

The First Congregational Church of Rockford dedicated a Christian Education wing that was the vision of a church member who died several years ago. This half-a-million dollar addition was built with all donations of funds and there is no mortgage attached to it! Congregational members have the gifts of being the architect, builder and professional fund developer. We did not hire an outside fund raising firm.

“We began with the fundraising in 2009 and raised money for three years before breaking ground with more than 75-percent of the needed funds in the bank. Our builder has come in under budget so we’ve been able to add other much needed improvements to the building, including illuminating our nearly 140 year old steeple. Every household has sacrificed in some way and all ages take “ownership” of this space.” An official dedication and open house for the larger community was held on Monday, Dec. 3 at 6 p.m.

“At the time that we proposed this project it seemed impossible and very poor planning, given the tremendous recession in our country and particularly in Michigan. However, we felt the Spirit moving us to bring the dream to fruition, so we took it on.”
