Neuman among LAX players at Hofstra University team

Hofstra University Women’s Lacrosse Coach Shannon Smith today announced the signings of six student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to play lacrosse at Hofstra.

The six – Taylor Altomare, Audrey Byrd, Alexis Greene, Erin Jeffrey, Morgan Knox and Erika Neumen – represent Smith’s first recruiting class and will begin their studies at Hofstra in the fall 2013.

“We are really excited to welcome these six young student-athletes to join our family here at Hofstra,” commented Smith.  “This recruiting class is a very exciting one for us as we bring a large talented class in from the east coast, mid-west and west coast. This group brings a lot of versatility and it will be exciting to watch them make an immediate impact to our 2013-14 team. These student-athletes are very athletic, fast, agile, aggressive and work extremely hard. We cannot wait for them to get on campus to start working with them.”

Erika Neuman is a  midfield/attack, will come to Hofstra from Rockford High School where she was an honorable mention All-American in 2012 after tallying 87 goals, 16 assists, 50 ground balls and 62 draw controls in 22 games. She scored a school record 11-goals in a game during the 2012 regional finals and was a first team All-Michigan selection as a sophomore and junior. Neumen has also been a three-time all-conference pick and a two-year team captain.

Smith says of Neuman, “Erika is a work horse. She is a great all around midfielder who will bring an exceptional work ethic to our team”

Hofstra will begin the 2013 campaign on Saturday, February 16 when it hosts New Hampshire at 11 a.m.
