Rams Soccer Signs National Letters of Intent

SP-Soccer-LettersOn Wednesday, February 6, during National Signing Day, student athletes from across the nation signed National Letters of Intent to play sports at their respective Colleges & Universities.  The Rockford Soccer Program was well represented as players from both the Boy’s and Girls Soccer Teams signed Letters of Intent to play collegiately.

On the boy’s side, Senior Dewey Lewis made his commitment to play at NCAA Division 1 Michigan State University.  Lewis had an outstanding fall campaign, leading the Rams to a school record 17 wins.  Dewey scored 18 goals and recorded 13 assists.  He was also named First Team All State and Dream Team.  Dewey capped off his four-year varsity career being named 2012 Michigan’s Mr. Soccer, the award annually given to the states top player.

The girls program had four senior players sign Letters of Intent.  Erika Bradfield has signed with NCAA Division II Grand Valley State University.  The Lakers have won 2 National Championships since 2009.  Erika is a four-year varsity player and scored 12 goals and 13 assists from Central Midfield as a junior.  In 2012, she was named 3rd Team All State, All Region, All District and All Conference.

Katie Hartnett has signed a Letter of Intent with NCAA Division I Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne (IPFW).  Katie is a four-year varsity player and had an outstanding junior campaign.  She scored 16 goals and passed out a school record 19 assists last spring.  She was named Honorable Mention All State, All Region, All District and All Conference.

Gabrielle Pilgrim signed her Letter of Intent with NCAA Division II Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee.  Gab is another four-year varsity player and played outside defender on a Rams defense that recorded school records in shutouts (11) and goals against (12) last spring.  Gab also added 2 goals and 5 assists. She was selected to All Region, All District and All Conference Teams in 2012.

Marissa Platz signed her Letter of Intent with Alma College (MI).  Marissa is a third year varsity player at the Goalkeeper position for Rockford.  Marissa’s athleticism and shot blocking ability led the Rams to a school record 11 shutouts and goals against (12) last spring.  Marissa was selected to the All District and All Conference Teams in 2012.

Coach Thomas states, “Signing Day is always special for the players, families and soccer program.  I want to congratulate Dewey on signing with the Spartans and for setting the bar extremely high for our current players with his leadership and work ethic.  Obviously, the girls program is well represented and I’m happy for each of them to reach their dream of playing at the next level.  It’s going to be an exciting spring to watch these ladies lead our team in the always competitive OK Red and district tournament.”
