Rockford boys swim/dive team pulls out win in the OK Red

It was a key OK Red win for the Rams when they edged out Hudsonville 166-148 on Tuesday, February 5th. Yet, the victory didn’t come easy for the Rockford team, who not only were competing away from home at the Hudsonville Natatorium, but also against an enthusiastic Eagle squad who were celebrating their “Senior Night.” The meet became a battle from the start as Hudsonville touched the wall first in the 200yd medley relay, and continued to grab first place in six out of the eleven swimming events that night.

The Rams were able to seize the win in the 200yd im (Trenton Babcock), 500yd free (Jacob Fase), 100yd breast (David Newberger), and 100yd fly and 100yd back (Craig Wasberg). Despite winning only five swimming events, Rockford’s team depth enabled the Ram’s to grab enough points for the overall win. Once again this season, the Rockford divers swept the scoreboard when they clenched the top three spots on the diving board. Jake Herremans came in first with 229.35 points, followed by Shane Phillips with 204.70, and Joel Slot with 169.30.

Up next, the Rams, who still remain undefeated in the OK Red, will travel to Grand Haven for their last dual meet of the season on Tuesday, February 12th, starting at 6:30pm.
