Sportsmanship the winner at cheer competition

SP-CheerCheerleaders cheering for other cheer teams were abundant at the Deltaplex this past Saturday February 9.  RHS’s Varsity Competitive Cheer Team joined 33 other teams in a friendly competition between top cheerleading schools around the state.  The Lady Ram Cheerleaders earned a score of 730.6, which earned them 15th place.

Coach Renee Dengler exclaimed, “ I am one very proud coach today!  These girls have been working so hard every week to get better and perform three perfect rounds.  Today we did that!  All three rounds were filled with Ram Pride.  This was our first time having judges that primarily work on the East side of the state.  Our scores did not reflect the awesome effort we showed out on the floor.  The only scores we need to be concerned with are the scores at Districts this coming weekend.  The top four teams will advance to the Regional meet.  These lady Rams intend on giving it their all at Districts, and I look forward to seeing what we are able to accomplish on Saturday!  I believe in these athletes, and I know they will leave their mark at the District Finals.”

Junior Allie Hite said, “Competing against teams from around the state is inspiring.  Seeing new formations and stunts creates excitement in the sport and pushes us to try new things.  One of the highlights of this competition today is creating friendships with girls from teams like Hartland and Dakota.  We truly wanted to see them perform to the best of their ability.” These teams reciprocated Rockford’s friendship.  The parents’ usual screaming for their Rockford girls was drown out by the cheers coming from the rival teams of Hartland and Dakota.  Our Rockford cheerleaders could not have been friendlier and genuinely excited to see others do well.  Sportsmanship and talent was plentiful at the Deltaplex this Saturday.

Junior and three-year varsity cheerleader Kaitlin Castor is optimistic about the future, “We have come away from this competition with new friendships and creative ideas about how our team can increase our difficulty level. As a former East Kentwood cheerleader, I have always valued friends from other districts. Being here at the Deltaplex provided additional opportunities for us to meet other girls that are passionate about our sport.” Come cheer our Rockford Cheerleaders at the District Finals in Caledonia on February 16!
