RPS Testing for Middle School R.O.C.K. Classes

Sponsored by the Rockford Public Schools Gifted and Talented Department

Testing for 7th and 8th grade ROCK Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies classes will take place the week of April 15, 2013 at NRMS and ERMS. ROCK classes are advanced classes that provide faster-paced delivery of more complex curriculum for task committed, high-achieving students. Students qualify for ROCK testing based upon MEAP test scores or teacher recommendation. Parent recommendations will also be accepted. Parents wanting to recommend their child will need to complete a Parent Recommendation form which is available online at: www.rockfordschools.org/?i=GT.

Parent Recommendation forms are due to the GT office located at Belmont Elementary no later than Monday, March 11, 2013 at 4:00pm. Late applicants will be tested in August.

Specific class descriptions are available in the middle school counseling offices. Parents will receive a letter in late March providing further testing information. Recommendation forms may be faxed (863-6356), mailed (6097 Belmont Ave., Belmont, MI 49306), or emailed (jsmith@rockfordschools.org.) Parents will be emailed a confirmation when we have received your recommendation. Please be sure you receive a confirmation from the GT Department if you submit a recommendation form. If you do not hear from the GT Department, this indicates that we did not receive your recommendation.

Please note that ROCK recommendations are due by March 11, 2013 at 4:00pm. If you have questions concerning your student testing and qualifying for any ROCK class, please contact your student’s teacher and discuss his/her recommendation. At this time, you may also inquire about whether or not your student qualified for ROCK testing based on MEAP test results. Middle School Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for February 26 and 28.

For questions concerning the ROCK testing process, please call the Gifted and Talented Office at 863-6370.
