Rams trounce Hudsonville and journey to Michigan State

The girl’s track team from Rockford began their week with an 83-39 thrashing of Hudsonville. They then made the trip to East Lansing and Michigan State University on Friday, April 26th to take part in the prestigious Spartan Classic Invitational. One of the teams in the field at the Spartan Classic was Grosse Pointe South. They have absolutely dominated the Michigan High School Athletic Association Class A state meet over the last few years. And if the results were indicative of future track and field events in Michigan as this season transpires, their run won’t be coming to an end anytime soon.

Grosse Pointe South amassed 155 points to easily take the crown over Dearborn Divine Child and Rockford. Divine Child ended the day with 104 points and Rockford totaled 97 to take third-place.

Rachel Raab had the best day of the Ram athletes as she took the top spot in the discus and suffered a narrow loss in the shot put. Raab hurled the discus 121’9” and threw the shot 41’3” to take third. The margin between first and third-place in the shot put was less than three inches.

One individual and one relay team garnered second-place showings for the Rams. Sammy Cuneo ran a solid 25.63 in the 200 meters to grab her second-place spot. The 4×100 relay team of Makayla Clum, Cuneo, Allison Kelley and Elise Schierbeek posted a time of 50.80 second.
