Rams fall to East Kentwood, finish third at Cedar Springs

East Kentwood has been the dominant boy’s track team in the state of Michigan over the past several years. Rockford found out that the tide hasn’t quite turned yet when they traveled south to face the Falcons on Tuesday, April 30th. The final score was East Kentwood 99 Rockford 38 in a meet that was never in doubt.

The Rams licked their wounds and took a trip to Cedar Springs for the Cedar Springs Invitational on Saturday, May 4th with less than a full contingent of regulars and ended up in third place with a more than respectable 796 points. Kenowa Hills took the top spot with 840.5 points and Greenville was next with 805.

Team depth was the catalyst for Rockford as they claimed only three firsts in the seventeen events contested. A pair of individuals and one of the Ram relay teams were the winners.

Nick Simms finished first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.59 seconds. Patrick Baldwin was the other winner for the Rams in an individual event with a winning leap of 5’8” in the high jump. The 4×100 relay quartet of Simms, KC Zenner, Scott Kaule and Mitchell Dickenson crossed the finish line with a winning time of 44.99 seconds.
