The Lady Rams completed a very successful weekend by capping off another regional title. Having been ranked number one in the state for most of the year it was expected that the team would play well but not only did they play well, they dominated this tournament. The first game on Friday, May 17th was against Grand Haven. The first quarter started like usual with goals from; Adrianna Craft (2), Kara Vandawater (2) and Megan Schremp. Two more goals by Adrianna Craft had the Rams leading 7-1 at halftime. In the third quarter Hannah Raymond scored twice and Adrianna Craft scored three times leading to a final score of 12 – 7. Needless to say this game set the tone for the weekend right away with a convincing win over Grand Haven.
In the second game on Saturday, May 18, the girls played a very familiar Zeeland team. In the first quarter goals came from Adrianna Craft (three) and Kara Vandawater. In the second quarter Adrianna Craft added another three goals and Hanna Raymond got on the board. At halftime, the Lady Rams held a commanding 8 – 2 lead. In the third quarter the scoring came from; Marie Siegel, Kara Vandawater and Hannah Raymond. In the final quarter two more goals were added by Kara Vandawater and one from Katelyn Arends. The Rams defense continues to refuse to let opponents get into their comfort zone and with Ellie Raymond in goal this is a wicked combination. The final score – Rockford 13 – Zeeland 5.
The highly anticipated championship game featured the two conference heavy weights, Rockford and Jenison. The first quarter was truly amazing if you were a Rockford fan. The girls could not have played a more perfect quarter, getting scores from five different players. To say that Jenison did not know what hit them would be an understatement. The goals came from; Megan Schremp (two), Marie Siegel, Adrianna Craft, Hannah Raymond and Kara Vandawater. Scoring in the second quarter was; Adrianna Craft (two) and Hannah Raymond. The halftime score had the Lady Rams leading 9- 2. Megan Schremp scored her third goal of the game in the third quarter and Hannah Raymond added a goal in the fourth quarter. The Rams had tremendous ball movement and that consistent hard nose defense was ever present in this big game. The final score had the Rams winning 11 -4. Congratulations Rockford Girls Water Polo!! This team is poised to make a deep run in the state tournament based on the level of play this past weekend.
Winning regional tournament honors were Kara Vandawater, Adrianna Craft and Elli Raymond. Regional Player of the tournament was our own Adrianna Craft!!
