Frustrating day for boy’s track in state finals

Rockford entered the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 1 finals at East Kentwood on Saturday, June 1st with no delusions of grandeur. The Rams didn’t have enough depth or qualifiers to seriously challenge for a team title. But they did have a fair amount of qualifiers and had a realistic shot at making it onto the medalist’s stand with a pretty solid crop of middle and long distance runners. Several of the Rams were in fact seeded in a pretty favorable position.

But ultimately the Rams managed to make it to the podium and score points in only a single event on an extremely frustrating day of competition that brought together the finest track and field athletes the state of Michigan had to offer.

The only event that the Rams were able to crack the leader board on was the 4×800 relay. The quartet of Austin Benoit, Chris Coles, Grant Aman and Drew Woznick finished sixth in 7:52.16 and narrowly missed out on fifth-place by .03 seconds.
