Volunteers needed for the June 8 event
Wolverine Brand and Rockford Footwear Depot will sponsor a community effort to keep the Rogue River banks free of trash and other debris on Saturday, June 8 beginning at 9 a.m. at the Rockford Footwear Depot (235 N Main St, Rockford, MI.)
“Whether used for fishing, kayaking, canoeing or simply admired from the White Pine Trail or Red’s on the River, the Rogue River is an irreplaceable community resource that we are lucky to have in Rockford,” said Ben Gallagher, president of the trout and fly fishing club Sons of Dagon, who initiated the project. “We hope our community will join us in this effort to keep the river clean and beautiful so we can continue to enjoy it today and well into the future. Our goal is to have 200 volunteers participate.”
Volunteers are encouraged to pre-register at rogueriver.eventbrite.com. When they arrive on June 8, volunteers will be assigned to a team with a project leader and provided supplies for the day’s activities. Volunteers should bring comfortable shoes (that can get dirty), layered clothing, bug spray and refillable water bottles. Wolverine will provide t-shirts for participants and Rockford Ace Hardware will provide gloves and trash bags. All volunteers will also be eligible for coupons and giveaways from Rockford businesses.
The activities will be followed by lunch at the Rockford Footwear Depot, courtesy of the Corner Bar. Trout Unlimited and NOMAD Anglers will also be hosting a free fly fishing casting demo at the riverbank near the store and will be providing information on fly fishing and other river conservation projects.
“Maintaining and preserving outdoor spaces is incredibly important to the Wolverine Brand,” said Kelly Redinger, Wolverine Brand Marketing Director. “We’re excited to partner with the Rockford community to care for the Rogue River and protect the beauty and recreational activities it offers.”
