The Rockford softball team knew they would face a stern test when they met up with Northview in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Pre-district game at Greenville on Wednesday, May 29th. The Rams struck first with a run in the opening inning, but the Wildcats countered with one of their own in the third-inning to knot things up at 1-1.
The game stayed that way until the sixth-inning when the Wildcats pushed across four more runs en route to claiming the 5-1 triumph and advance to the district semifinals on Saturday (which they ultimately won),
Isabelle Mudgett got things off to a great start for Rockford by tripling on the first pitch of the game. Mudgett scored on a fielder’s choice grounder from Emily Smith but that would prove to be all the offense the Rams could muster on a frustrating afternoon offensively.
“Northview is a great program historically and played a great game today,” said Rockford coach Troy Brown. “We have averaged over ten hits a game all year long and their pitcher limited us to only four today. They played just the way we thought they would play and got a great pitching performance on top of that.”
The 16-10 Rams will conclude their season with a make-up contest on Monday, June 4th against Grandville.
