Family Fare teams up with North Kent Community Service

Family-Fare-CharEvery morning, Tom Grostick, NKCS Warehouse Assistant, heads to the Family Fare grocery store on 10 Mile Road to pick up a truck load of day-old bread and pastries. Struggling families visiting North Kent Community Services for food and other services love taking home the bakery items.

Family Fare, a Spartan Store, partners with NKCS all year long. It provides turkeys at Thanksgiving and conducts clothing, book and pop can drives. “Spartan is highly committed to North Kent Community Services,” says store director Char Bouwkamp. It participates in the County Wide Food Drive and Food for Families campaigns and gives all food collections to NKCS. In addition Char encourages her employees to designate their United Way contributions to NKCS.

A former board member of the Center, Char said she has a huge customer base in Rockford that likes to support the local food pantry. Her customers enjoy creating ideas to help North Kent, such as buying whole meals in a bag and donating it to clients. Char shares that enthusiasm for giving back to others. “I live in the community, work in the community and serve in the community. It’s a passion that I have.” Thank you, Char and Spartan Stores, for your generous spirit of giving.
