Brown and Ramos named All-Conference in softball

By RANDY GREGORY

Rockford softball players Lexie Brown and Jessi Ramos were both named to the OK Red first team All-Conference squad by league coaches. Isabelle Mudgett was also honored as an honorable mention choice for the 16-11 Rams. Both Ramos and Brown were also cited as members of the All-District squad as well. Rachel Feinauer was left off the All-Conference team but was selected as a member of both the All-District and All-Region teams.

The Rams graduated five seniors off of this year’s team; Feinauer, Mudgett, Megan Port, Hannah Pattok and Lyndsey Bettig. They were invaluable to this year’s team in a myriad number of ways according to Rockford head coach Troy Brown.

“It isn’t just the fact that four of them were starters,” according to Brown. “They were also leaders who have been through all of tghe trials and tribulations and were there for all of their teammates through good times and bad. They will be sorely missed by the other players and the coaching staff.”

Almost all of the returnees next year for Rockford have signed up to participate with various club and All-Star teams for summer ball. Brown and Mackenzie Vallad will play with Elite Softball. Ramos and Gabe Smith will take the field with the West Michigan Sabre Cats. Ashley Mengyan and Chelsea Chesebro will both play with the Grand Rapids Blaze organization. Mengyan with the 18U and Chesebros with the 16U. Karlee Tykosky will participate with the Rockford Crush.

“We love to see the girls get out and participate against quality competition,” said Brown. “We have already begun preparing for next season and the competition will be intense for the open positions that will be available next season. We want to take the next step and hopefully this will go a long way towards getting the team ready.”
