
Woman was caretaking an elderly person
Tracy Gaye Mata, a 48-year-old Grattan Township resident, has been arrested on two counts of larceny after allegedly stealing from the elderly person she was caring for. The Lowell Police Department arrested her for one count each of Larceny in a Building and Larceny from the Person.
Mata was lodged in Kent County Jail and arraigned before Judge Sara Smolenski of the 63rd District Court on Wednesday, July 24. Mata’s next court appearance at the 63rd District Court is a preliminary examination on August 7 at 2:30 p.m.
Mata is alleged to have acted as a volunteer caregiver to a 91-year-old Lowell woman for the purpose of stealing money and valuables from the woman. During the course of the last 18 months she it is alleged that Mata stole several thousands of dollars from the Lowell woman. Much of the money was stolen from the victim’s purse while in her home.
Larceny in a Building is a felony punishable by up to four years in state prison and/or a $5,000 fine. Larceny from a person is a felony punishable by up to ten years in state prison.
