“The Moving Wall” Vietnam memorial comes to Sparta

Vietnam-WallAttention veterans! A call to action. Please stand for those who have fallen.

The Moving Wall is the half-size replica of the Washington, DC Vietnam Veterans Memorial and has been touring the country for almost thirty years. When John Devitt attended the 1982 dedication in Washington, he felt the positive power of “The Wall.” He vowed to share that experience with those who did not have the opportunity to go to Washington.

John, Norris Shears, Gerry Haver, and other Vietnam veteran volunteers built The Moving Wall. It went on display for the first time in Tyler, Texas in October of 1984. Two structures of The Moving Wall now travels the USA from April through November, spending about a week at each site.

Local Veterans are needed to provide an Honor Guard for The Moving Wall, which will be on display at Rogers Park in Sparta, August 29th to September 3rd.

While the wall is on display, constant, around the clock security must be provided. Please consider taking a few hours during that period to assist in providing the necessary security. To volunteer, please follow the instructions below.

You will receive an email confirmation of your volunteer activity. Please contact Clyde Sinclair at csinclair1120@charter.net or call 616-822-9627 with any questions.
