Girls’ cross country finish pre-season with Black and Orange Scrimmage

By GRANT MEDICH

Lady Rams were running hot Friday at East Rockford Middle School as temperatures lingered in the mid 80’s during the team’s 2013 scrimmage race. Their regular 5K course was shortened to just two miles for this special event.  Head coach Ben Watson organized the race to introduce this year’s line-up to a competitive run before engaging opposing teams.  Despite the heat, ten runners posted times under 13:00 minutes.

Senior Lauren Brasure (11:20) and junior Kerianne Schoff (11:41), both 2-time state finalists, finished 1st and 2nd.  Senior Morgan Harney (12:22), another 2-time state finalist, posted 3rd place.  Following Harney, six of the seven remaining sub-13:00 runners finished no more than 7 seconds apart, showing great depth of talent on this year’s roster.

The lady Rams will run their first regular season meet on Tuesday, August 27 at the St. Joseph Cross Country Invitational.  The girls will split into senior/junior and sophmore/freshman squads, competing in two separate races at this unique meet.
