Rams to open season at Swinehart Field against Utica Eisenhower

By RANDY GREGORY

If by chance you are headed over to the east side of the state to catch the Rockford football team in action for the 2013 season opener on Friday, don’t head for Utica Eisenhower High School! I was perusing the internet and looking for the address of the Ram’s opening opponent when I happened across the Eisenhower web site. Fortunately I took a few minutes to read a little deeper and noticed that the game site is not at the high school.

It is instead at Swinehart Field in Shelby Township, MI. The actual address is 47398-47472 Shelby Road in the charter township of Shelby, MI 48317. According to multiple map sites I consulted it is approximately a two and a half hour drive from Rockford, depending on the always volatile flow of holiday traffic and which way everyone is headed for the long Labor Day weekend.

If you want to head out earlier than that you can venture out to Swinehart Field and catch the Freshmen and junior varsity games which will be contested between the same two schools at 1:00 and 3:30 P.M. according to the Eagles football web site.
